Our PR company, Atmosphere was named Best Mid-sized Consultancy of the Year at the annual Public Relations Institute awards evening in Johannesburg over the weekend. In addition to some silverware for their awards cabinet - a Gold for the launch of Burger King South Africa; a Silver for the launch of Virgin Mobile's flagship store in Braamfontein and a Bronze for Sanlam Investments FoodWineDesign Fair sponsorship, they also scooped the first ever PR Campaign of the Year Award for the launch of Burger King South Africa.
The launch of Burger King in SA was a great example of integrated
work from King James. We pulled in all our partners, PR (Atmosphere);
advertising (King James); social (Society); digital (Punk) and events
(Hammer Live) –and we even created our own celebrity, the Whopper.
More than 4 500 people attended the opening day launch festivities –
we expected 1 500 – and some even slept outside the store, resulting in
the store only being able to finally close its doors at 1.30am the next
morning. But one of the biggest success indicators was the queue that
continued to snake outside the flagship store for weeks post launch – it
became a story in itself and journalists, bloggers and the public
reported on it for weeks.
